“The statistics are clear, men often get depressed once they leave the workforce and I didn’t think I would but retirement for some people is a bigger challenge than being in the workforce and I was one of those who was tremendously challenged.
When I applied they asked me 'why do you want to be here?’ and I said, 'I just need some sense of fellowship, I need company.' I was nervous and it was difficult because I hadn’t played an instrument for 54 years but joining the Pirates Band gave me a new lease on life. I started practising and looking up YouTube videos, it gave me a reason for being and I get excited coming here. I found the fellowship I was looking for.”
